Yoga DVD Reviews: Best Yoga Videos Overview! A Full Page List of my Favorites at a glance!

In my years as a yogi I have taken yoga classes all over the world and tried hundreds of yoga videos and DVDs (literally) I have enjoyed them personally and studied them professionally to find what works  well in a yoga viewing experience and what doesn't.  Here are some DVDs and videos that I love.

Ashtange Yoga: A Primary Series Guide with David Garrigues

This is a great DVD!  It has 1 hr and 45 minutes of instruction and you are able to choose to do the entire practice or just parts of it at the menu selection when you begin.

David gives clear direction in a calm and peaceful voice, allowing the yogi to enter into this yoga practice deeply.  In addition to knowledgable tips from David, the DVD itself has sections that are shown in slow motion to really give you a chance to see the detail in some of the more complicated postures and sequences.  You really get to see the detail of the postures clearly because of this.

I find David's words inspiring as well as calming and find myself moving with grace, ease and precision whenever I do this DVD!  I really enjpoy this video and I look forward to doing it again and again! This DVD is appropriate for Intermediate and Advanced yogis.  beginners can enjoy Disc One of this series of the same name. Namaste and enjoy!

Yoga Radiance: Four Seasons of Renewal This yoga DVD is unique in that it offers four workouts, each with a different level of intensity and flavor.  You can do all of the yoga video at once and get a full workout or you can choose to do one or two seasons at a time.  The feeling is warm and this is one 'voice over' experience that I do not find annoying :)  It is quite soothing.  The one shortcoming that I see is that the voice over is not quite in sync with the movements so if you are relying on voice alone you are slightly out of time with the movement.  Overall, great variety of yoga postures and satisfying yoga sequencing! All levels can learn from this DVD though two of the seasons are very satisfying for the advanced yogi.

Power Yoga for Happiness with Eoin Finn  I love Eoin Finn--a yogic kind of love!  He is funny and kind and his classes always feel good.  His DVDs all have a few different workouts you can choose from of varying lengths, intensities and focus.  Sometimes you even see his little dog in Down Dog on his own small puppy mat.  Great teacher and great DVD.  I love the Strong, Happy and Free yoga class especially on this DVD. All levels can learn from this DVD.

Power Yoga with Eoin Finn Same feeling about Eoin's DVDs here.  This has a nice mixture of Sun Salutations and longer holdings of yoga postures.  Great twists and breathing queues as well. All levels can learn from this DVD.

maha sadhana the Great Practice sri dharma mittra's DVD is almost as great as taking a master class with him at his NYC studio on 23rd and 3rd.  There are 3 yoga classes on this DVD and one of them is especially challenging.  This yoga DVD is a great way to keep growing in your practice! This is for intermediate/advanced yogis.

Bryan Kest's Power Yoga: Energize, Tone, Sweat   This DVD too has 3 yoga classes, each are full routines and increase in difficulty.  His sequencing is fun and satisfying, especially in class 2 and 3!  Bryan is a great teacher, motivating and energizing, and this comes through in his DVDs.  I have a few of his other videos but this seems to be the best. This is for intermediate/advanced yogis.

Yoga Zone: Power Yoga for Strength and Endurance All Levels  I really like this DVD.  The teacher is calming and instructive and the class is well-rounded and satisfying.  I love the direction and the encouragement.  Overall a great DVD! All levels can learn from this DVD.

Yoga Zone: Introduction to Power Yoga For Beginners This DVD has 3 easy to follow 20 minute yoga classes.  Great for the Beginner.  I liked Power Yoga for Strength and Endurance best but Yoga Zone stays true to its great teaching in all the DVDs I have gotten from them.  Great intro to power yoga!  All levels can learn from this yoga DVD.

Yoga Zone: Total Body Conditioning For Beginners This DVD also has 3 easy to follow 20 minute yoga classes.  Great for the Beginner. All levels can learn from this yoga DVD.

Zen and Yoga: The Art of Flow with Claire E. Diab I really enjoyed this DVD.  Claire Diab seems like a very genuine sweetheart of a person and her calming manner really helps you to become calm as well!  This practice is a great mix of meditative practice and yoga movement.  It was a more mellow practice and at the same time got me connected with my body and softly grounded.  I ended the practice with a smile on my face and shiny eyes.  The chakra toning exercise at the end of savasana was wonderful and felt very valuable.  I followed this practice with her Power Yoga: Sun Moon Series 1 DVD and got a complete workout.

Power Yoga: Sun Moon Series 1 with Claire E. Diab The first thing you read when the video opens is a beautiful quote: "If there were no change there would be no butterflies.  Enjoy this spiritual journey as we all evolve and grow together."  This quote seems so naturally to be a match to Claire and the energy in this DVD.  This Power video felt very balanced and energizing.  It is a shorter practice, about 30 minutes, but gets you into your body, invigorated and ready to meet your day graciously.  I really enjoy the way Claire puts together repetitive, rhymthic movements with synchronized breathing.  The result is that you get to repeat the postures several times in a flow, while flowing within the postures themselves.  The rhythm of that felt very connecting since it allowed me to link up my movement and breath very easily and in a fun way.  I especially loved what she calls the 'equestrian posture' sequence, where you have the option to lift your knee when you inhale in knee down lunge, and gently place the knee and your hand down on your exhale...and then switch sides.  The variations on triangle in the flow were new feeling and fun as well!  The more energetic breathing from 5 pointed star to Goddess pose was great and was balanced out and calmed at the end of the practice by the Chakra toning exercise which is grounding and calming.  I enjoyed the uniqueness of this practice and would recommend doing Claire's Zen and Yoga; The Art of Flow first and then follow it with this DVd for a wonderful, full practice.
