Ashtange Yoga: A Primary Series Guide with David Garrigues (Disc 1)
I enjoy this Ashtanga DVD! I emerged from this yoga practice feeling grounded, happy and open.
Overall, I really find an Ashtanga yoga practice valuable: partly because of the value I find in repeating the same sequences again and again. This repetition enables us to see our ever changing selves against a stationary backdrop: the repeated sequences. Some days you flow through them easily, other days its a struggle. Each time you are challenged to embrace yourself just where you are.
In this DVD especiallly, I felt the stability and predictibility of the vinyasa flows. I enjoyed the way that each sequence in an Ashtanga practice is ended by (and connected with) Down Dog held calmly over and over again for 5 breaths, the way that all postures needed for the body to unwind are addressed! The direction and voice over in this DVD are soothing and instructive.
