Getting Grounded with Yoga in 20 Minutes

#0927 Hands and Heart, Yoga and Meditation, 61 minutes
Get in touch with your Hands and Heart! Great poses like Crow, Side Scissors, and Titivasana. Do your hands sometimes hurt? Are you feeling clumsy or unconscious in your hand movements and in your hands in general? With postures that encourage your heart to expand and accept more space and breath, this class will encourage you to open and listen to your heart while at the same time stretching and flowing your hands and arms freely and softly. We start class firmly entrenching in ourselves with extensive Breathwork (pranayama) and Abdominal exercises. We will then proceed into a fusion of grounded standing postures and watery flowing arms and hand movements that will begin to reconnect your hands and your daily actions to your heart and your true desires. You may notice that you are going through the motions in some areas of your life: it's better to see it. Yoga will help you feel your experience of your life almost as clearly as a blueprint in your body's movements while you are on your mat. Your arms and hands will be encouraged to flow like water while the grounding postures you are guided in will keep you firmly connected to your feet and your intention. You will begin to reconnect your spirit and action in your body and those newly activated neuronal pathways will begin to implement themselves, as a natural extension of what you are learning experientially in yoga, into your daily life and interactions. In this class we will also explore the secrets of some elusive postures including a Standing-Twist Balance sequence, Side-balancing Scissors, and the always amazing One-Legged Balancing Squat into Arm Balance and then softly Jumping back into One-Legged Down Dog. Neck release will ensure you do not get off of your mat without feeling completely relaxed and unwound! Enjoy exploring some of these more advances postures!! #0926 Moderate-Intense, Yoga and Meditation, 58 minute
Moderate-Intense Yoga and Meditation. Get calm, centered, and focused! We will begin class by enjoying simple centering breaths and setting our intention for this class. Moving into Bound-Angle Pose(Baddhakoonasana) and then Wide Angle Foward Fold, we will stretch luxuriously on our mat in floor postures before moving into Abdominal exercises. Upward Facing Boat will challenge our balance while strengthening our core integrity. Alternate Elbow to Knee will show us how to Really connect in with the abdominal muscles in a way that is visceral instead of theoretical. We'll use Chair posture transition into Runners Lunge to work on Balance and Equanimity in transitions (in this sequence and in life in general!!). And most importantly, we will expand our breath in this class until it inhabits our entire body! After standing Tree Posture and Standing Balancing Toe-Hold Posture we will move down into Twists and end in a Seated Lotus meditation. (You can sit as comfortably as you choose if Lotus doesn't work for you!) Enjoy the sense of calm you create for yourself with this class. Relish it. Get flowing with lots of Knee Down Sun Salutations, Standing Balancing sequences into Warriors, Pyramids into Twisted Triangle, Rolls to Balancing, Yoga Mudra and more! The theme of this class is that taking care of yourself is not an event--its a practice! And a fun practice at that! In this powerful class we will move slowly and hold strong postures with ease and grace. You will explore sequences that challenge your balance while allowing you to engage your strength--and you will be encouraged to hold both qualities of balance and strength simultaneously and softly. Some sequences we will explore are: Standing One-Leg Balancing Pose extending back with a slow-motion like stretch into Runners Lunge, then pivoting open into Extended Warrior Variation. We will also do Warriors, Twisted Triangles, Rolls to Balancing, Yoga Mudra and more!! You will feel strong, quiet and sure at the end of this class. Everyday, being connected with ourselves and our bodies, it is a practice! Good for you for taking care of your body and your spirit! What a lovely life you are creating!! Great feel-good flow! Everyone loves to move! We will start off brisk in this class and settle in deliciously! This hour long Taoist yoga class has always been a favorite at my studio. It is comprised of repeating sequences--done slowly first to get you into the groove and then twice more at a faster pace with breath linking movement. You will get very warm doing these sequences as you move through Goddess and Warriors into Yoga Mudras, Camels, and on through Down Dog into Abdominal and Balancing Postures. #0712 Hot, Intensive and Revitalizing class, Advanced, 60 minutes
Get wrung out, in a great way! Dive in with an intense workout, 60 minutes, #0712. You will move through centering and dive into class with Kabalabiti Breathwork, Twists and Forward Folds. As you get warmer you will move into a deeper twists with Thread the Needle and Balancing Thread the Needle. Work your lower body, open the hips and start to heat up from the inside out with One Legged Down Dogs, Down Dog with Fire Hydrant and Donkey to really heat up the body and get into the hip sockets in a safe and challenging way! You will play with balance and strength in Balancing Prayer Twist, Extended Warriors, Pyramid, Twisted Triangles, Triangles and Standing Splits. Forward fold will transition you into Sun Breaths where you can breathe in all that you have experienced in your body so far. The next section of class opens the shoulders and upper back with Camel, Locust, Dolphin, One legged Dolphin, Yoga Mudra and then you will bring the lower and upper body work together in Warriors with Ostrich Arms. Class winds down with a beautiful Pigeon sequence--Sleeping Pigeon, King Pigeon, Upward Extending Pigeon and Mermaid if you feel ready! As class closes you will get another chance to do some breathwork now that your body is more receptive to the breath. Class ends with Plow, Shoulderstand moving into Bridge as you lower (a fun transition!) and a wonderfully, fully deserved Savasana. Enjoy! . . . keep reading

Focusing on understanding the specfic alignment of postures that you are uncertain about is an awesome way to enhance your practice! This class offers in depth instruction in a wide variety of popular postures which will deepen your practice and enhance your enjoyment of any other class that involves these movements. This posture tutorial covers the following postures in depth and allows you to sink into them for longer holdings once you have a good grasp on the alignment: Knee Up Twists, Abdominals (learn how to Really do Alternate Elbow to Knee), Sun Salutations with specific Breath instruction (the key to linking Sun Salutations effortlessly and fluidly), Yoga Mudra Forward Fold, Warrior 1 and Warrior 2 (focusing on alignment and transitions between these often linked postures), Triangle and Twisted Triangle (Transitions and Alignment), Dolphin, and Shoulder-stand. You will finish class with new understandings of how your specific body feels best in each posture and apply it easily to your ongoing yoga practice! You are always growing in your practice!!! Challenge yourself with a powerful workout that exhilarates the body and uplifts the spirit! In this class you will flow through a wide array of postures, after mastering the alignment of each. Beginning with Sun Salutations A, moving into Suns B with Chair and Warriors and then into a sequence of Suns with Warrior 1, Warrior 2, Triangle, Airplane, Twisted Triangle and Runners Lunge. Then you will play with balance moving from Triangle into Balancing Half Moon and then folding into a well-deserved Hugging Forward Fold. After resting in Child you will transition into Rabbit for a wonderful opening in the middle and upper back. Moving onto the floor you will continue to flow through Wide Angle Forward Fold and into Wide Angle Side bends--rolling the heart open and getting a delicious stretch in the whole side body. Class winds down with Twists, Shoulder-stand and Plow and ends with a beautiful poem by Rolf Gates from his book, "Meditations on the Mat."
